OBJECTION TO SOUTH DOWNS NATIONAL PARK AUTHORITY
THE PLANNING AUTHORITY

Update from SDNPA available here.

Without any consultation with residents, a commercial developer has submitted a planning application to SDNPA for up to 12 houses. The normal procedure to object, if you wish to do so, is via SDNPA’s planning portal, which can be viewed by the general public. In light of the sensitivity of this planning proposal a case officer has been appointed. Her name is Naomi Langford and she invites your comments by e-mailing planning@southdowns.gov.uk.

The comments Naomi receives will not be kept confidential and will be posted on the planning portal for the general public to peruse. You can, of course, write to Naomi in your own words, but please ensure the e-mail subject heading is “Objection to Pre-Application Submission SDNP/21/05912/PRE“.

You can access the SDNPA planning portal by clicking here.

Alternatively, you can simply cut and paste the text below:

Objection to Pre-Application Submission
SDNP/21/05912/PRE

I object to the commercial development of Steep Allotment Land and War Memorial Land because:

  • The result of the May 2010 Referendum showed that the majority of the village was against the then development;
  • The 2012 Steep Parish Plan, approved by Steep Parish Council and accepted by SDNPA as secondary planning legislation, stated clearly that the future of the Allotment Lands required proper consultation with residents who are also the beneficiaries of the land;
  • No consultation was ever conducted by Steep Parish Council. This is in breach of the Gunning Principles, with which by law Steep Parish Council must comply, so that the electorate has its say;
  • The Secretary of State was never consulted. The 1925 Allotments Act require this to happen to protect the rights of residents;
  • The land was transferred to a charity, which by changing its constitution,  has disenfranchised the beneficiaries;
  • Since SPC transferred the land without financial consideration that transfer can be reversed;
  • The residents of Steep own the Steep allotments beneficially.
  • The residents of Steep own the War Memorial land beneficially.

There are [ fill in number as appropriate ] residents in my household who object to this Pre-Application Submission.

Once again this should be sent by email to planning@southdowns.gov.uk.

We also encourage you to sign our petition opposing the commercial development of Steep Allotment land and War Memorial land which can be found here.

In this way the voice of residents, who are beneficiaries of both the Allotment and War Memorial lands will be heard.

NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT.
