THE PETITION TO STEEP PARISH COUNCIL

I object to the commercial development of Steep Allotment Land and War Memorial Land because:

The result of the May 2010 Referendum showed that the majority of the village was against the then development;

The 2012 Steep Parish Plan, approved by Steep Parish Council and accepted by SDNPA as secondary planning legislation, stated clearly that the future of the Allotment Lands required proper consultation with residents who are also the beneficiaries of the land;

No consultation was ever conducted by Steep Parish Council. This is in breach of the Gunning Principles, with which by law Steep Parish Council must comply, so that the electorate has its say;

The Secretary of State was never consulted. The 1925 Allotments Act require this to happen to protect the rights of residents;

The land was transferred to a charity, which by changing its constitution, has disenfranchised the beneficiaries;

Since SPC transferred the land without financial consideration that transfer can be reversed;

The residents of Steep own the Steep Allotments beneficially.

The residents of Steep own the War Memorial land beneficially.
